I have checked the files the emails have been received in and it looks like we have far more requests already than we will be able to supply in the first release. However, we still invite requests, they will be kept for priority on the second release. We are pleased to announce to all slipper growers a very special flask offering. We have been working with a rescue center the last two years, and will have available for late spring/early summer release legal flasks of Paphiopedilum vietnamense sib crosses. These flasks are derived from plants that were intercepted at customs and confiscated. The plants were then offered back to the range country as is required by CITES, and when their return was refused, they were placed at an official rescue center where they were recovered and have thrived. We were approached by the rescue center to see if we were interested in propagating these plants, and after several consultations with senior management at US Fish & Wildlife, it was determined that new growth on the plants (growth that existed at the time of placement must remain at the rescue center, new growth on legal plants in cultivation is art prop) could be propagated, and as a result, capsules were set on select plants at the center. We will present more information later on the details of how this all came about.
As stated earlier, we will have a limited number of flasks available late spring/early summer 2003. A second larger number will be available about nine months later. While we traditionally do not offer flasks until they are ready for sale, we would like to make this first offering as broadly available as possible, so we are going to have a reservation period. You may request more than a single flask, but to make this offering of legal Paph. vietnamense as widely available as possible, we will limit delivery to one flask per customer in good standing unless the preorders are less than the supply, at which point we will ship additional flasks as requested.
The first group of flasks to be offered are plated with approximately 15 plants each and will be priced at $175. They are now growing strongly and have good root systems started into the agar. To get on the reserve list please email us. We will then email each request with information regarding a deposit on the flask order to finalize the reservation. We are currently working on updating all of our other lists and will respond with further information to your email requests when we get those lists completed.
