Phrag. Hanne Popow (Phrag. besseae x Phrag. schlimii) comes in a variety of colors and patterns of those colors, but the entire range can be quite pleasing. While I have never been able to detect any, some folks report a sweet scent to the flowers. We have about 400 genes coding for olfactory receptors, but one surprise from the Human Genome Project was the discovery of about 1000 genes that appear to be olfactory. It appears that about 600 are "pseudogenes", genes no longer active, but it has been discovered that some individuals may have some of these genes in active form. In essence, we all do not have the same range of scent detection, so don't think your friends are crazy when they detect a floral scent you can't!
