Paphiopedilum violascens is native to northern and eastern New Guinea. It is not very common in either its native habitat or in cultivation, but fortunately is relatively easy to reproduce in asymbiotic seed culture. We have sold many flasks and compots of this species in the last few years, so hopefully it will become more easily available. It is somewhat sensitive generally to water quality, so it does best using a pure water source and a complete fertilizer including sufficient calcium and magnesium, in a well draining slightly acidic substrate.
