While 'albino' forms of many of the Paphiopedilum species are known to exist, one of the newest to be commercially available is that of Paphiopedilum wardii. Bred from 2 'albino' parents lacking the normal anthocyanin pigment common to the nominate species, the flowers and the actual plants of this grex are usually small compared to the the normal form, but have brilliant green and white coloration. Smaller flowers and/or weaker plants are not uncommon with these forms in Paphs, so with many we have bred them back to the best examples of the "normal" form. We then select the better plants from the progeny of this cross and sib them. We now have flasks and compots available of a sib cross using 2 parents from the same batch of seedlings produced from crossing Paph. wardii 'Penn Valley' AM/AOS (this happened to be the capsule parent) with pollen from an albino form. The F1 batch of course were the normal colored forms, but this second grex , the F2s, should produce roughly 25% albino plants.
