Paph. Jeff LaPoint was a cross made by us several years ago, and has flowered with several different types of color forms, ranging from the pale coloratum type (light pink and white colored dorsal, tan pouch, greenish petals with evenly spaced spotting) to the very dark vinicolored form shown here. Many of the clones from this grex have had extraordinarily dark colored flowers, some approaching near 'black', due to the heavy concentration of coalesced 'wartings' on the petals. Normally, this amount of merged petal spots will cripple and distort the ability of the petals to fully expand and extend, but that kind of malformation has not been seen in this hybrid to date. The pollen parent was chosen because of its flat and well held petals, and excellent smooth color. Good hybrids are produced from good parents properly matched to each other's characteristics!
